Monopoly Challenge 2011

St Cuth's Yoof were back out on the streets of London taking on the MONOPOLY CHALLENGE. We convened at 11.15 at Kings Cross and headed for Euston Road to take the first picture. We had to get round as many places of the Monopoly Board, take photos with the whole team and the team mascot in it. Collect our chance and community chess cards: - Pictures of Olympic rings and a item from a charity shop. The feet ached and it truely was a challenge. The team went in for a second year with confidence and excitment.

We did better than we did last year. We came 4th with 9,010 points. The team should be proud of themselves. WELL DONE TO KATIE, ANNA, DANIEL F, DANIEL B, STEVE AND JOSH. Sit back this evening with a evening of strictly and cuppa tea (or hot chocolate)

At October half term we are taking our BREAKOUT group of young people aged 14-18, from the Tottenham and Wood Green area, on a residential weekend in Saffron Walden. The weekend is going to give the young people to explore faith in a relevant way We want to subsidise the weekend for the young people.

To raise money, 5 of us are doing a sponsored 5km fun run in Bruce Castle Park on the 17th September called FIT 4 IT. We are aiming to raise £500.

Au Revoir Tereza :'-(

This picture is Tereza in her first line-management meeting.

Tereza arrived in the UK for her gap year on the 3rd September last year looking very nervous and wondering what on earth she was getting herself into.

This year we have seen her grow, try new things and mature. She has grown in confidence. There have been tears, challenges, excitment and laughts. Tereza has done All age talks, shared her testimony in school, translated in our local school and led bible studies - not to mention all she has done with nflame. This week we have seen the evidence of how she has changed and grown - standing up in church sharing what God has done in her life and also, becoming the stand up impersonator at the nflame BBQ. At the beginning of the year she was scared to stand up in front of anyone and hardly said anything to me in meetings.

Today, when I said goodbye, she looked different to how she had last September. She has matured and learned a lot. What the next chapter holds, remains to be seen, but I look forward to seeing what unfolds. It is not really 'goodbye' because she is determind to return to the UK, so when she flies home on Friday it is really 'Au Revoir'.

I am going to miss you T, who will Subway with me next year! ;-)

'Mick' looked slightly scared by the prospect of being disposed of, after living on top of the cupboard in the Church Lounge for the past years or so. During a ruthless Big clean, it was decided it was time he was got rid of. 'Mick' the fish had come to the church when he was used as a illustration in a youth led service.

He smoked but soon started to burn and become ashe.

Christmas is a time of many a service and in each of them there is a talk, all about he same story but what comes through...

Friday morning - it was about 3 trees all had a purpose in life but it was not the one they thought they were going to have.

Sunday morning - Radiators, do you have an air block? Are you cold, lukewarm or hot? Are you hypocrite? People are looking for something authentic, if you have a different world view why not live by it.

Sunday evening - What to watch this Christmas? What is the true meaning of Christmas?

Through each of the Christmas sermons has run the message of waiting, being patient for God's timing. Our timing and God's aren't the same. Simeon was waiting for the consolation of Israel, the Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die before he had seen the Messiah (Luke 2:26). How long had he been waiting?

As we have said it is that time of year! The young people of St Cuth's did a wonderful nativity called 'The Photograph Nativty'! Jordan was the photographer and did an amazing job of organising our small but well chosen cast!

During the service BREAKOUT also did a skit around different people's view of Christmas! We now know that their is dramatic talent in all ages of St C's.

From the 5-11 December the Enfield and Haringey Scouts put on a pantomime of Cinderella at the Intimate theatre! Daniel Brown, one of the member of BREAKOUT, did an amazing job of playing Boggle the Dog! A few of us went to see him

We had a great weekend of Jesus-time and mad activities! Lots of team building activities that involved water and they even managed to roll their youth worker in the mud!

This weekend there will be none of the usual programme because the youth team and 17 of the young people are off on a weekend away.

Phil Kingham shall be delivering the teaching - looking at Elijah, Mary and Joseph (Jesus's eartly parents).

Dave Plowman shall be leading worship and Rachel will be also delivering some of the teaching!

16th October, 7.30 onwards there will be a quiz nite with rounds of general knowledge, sport, kids stuff etc with table snacks and soft drinks. We invite you to bring pudding. It will be £15 for a table of 6! There will be MYSTERY PRIZES all the way along!

The first Toy Story came out in 1995, when most of the young people were babies (or before they were born). I was 9 and saw it when it came out on VHS! Most films when they do sequels, by the third one, they get painful. Free Willy 3?

This film had the humour for the child and the adult. As the twenty something roared with laughter near me , the 11 year old looked confused. Toy Story (be it 1,2 or 3) definitely is a film for all the family.

I'm personally not sure this film in 3D is all that. But is a good film, leaving you feeling you should go and play with your childhood toys, or pass them on to another child. Not that toys really come alive when you leave the room.... or do they?!

Pampered

Most girls enjoy hanging out and chilling with mates: painting nails; catching up on the latest news; putting on a bizarre face pack that either heats up or peals off.

The teens and young adults gathered together for an evening of pampering in the church lounge. We soaked our feet, attacked the hard skin with graters..... Now that's bonding! The small gathering then sat back to relax, and some of us relaxed so much.....

Fun in the Sun

It was a weekend of fun in the sun. Saturday was the Fun Day in the church grounds: the maturer members of the congregation playing apple bobbing and orange under the chin. (Shame that there was no camera to hand - or maybe it was good!) A constantly roaring BBQ, face painting and crafts. It was such fun and it was all FREE for the community.

Sunday afternoon we had a BBQ for the families who's young people came to the groups at the church. Croquet maybe considered a game for the aristocrats but the competitive streak in the players was evident and the 'vicar in training' enjoying trying to reconcile team members. The sun shone down on us and it was a lovely afternoon. Hanging out and spending time together.

Bring on GO.Fest! Even more time together having fun!

STORY CORNER: BREAKOUT HAVE A BREAK-IN

The cold December moon glared down on the large house. The snow fell to the dark muddy ground like stones of purity. The laughter of the party rang through the valley like a chorus of birds singing in the silent chill of the morning. It was closing up to midnight and the bells of the grandfather clock in the study were ready to chine the countdown to New Year’s Day but everyone was in the lounge. The interrupted party games spread out on the floor, a game of twister, cluedo, monopoly and boggle. The group were huddled on the floor screaming with laughter yet no-one could remember why exactly. They stood up slightly confused. Silence echoed through the house and out into the cold night. The flapping of a bird feathers outside made them jump and one of them laughed again, a boy. A glare from a woman, short and stout with brown hair tied into a pony-tail wearing glasses with eyes like tree bark, firm and brown, made him quiet.

“What?” asked the boy, his hair was blonde with a dark tinge to it, it flopped evenly over his forehead and his face was round and smooth apart from his puberty born facial hair both above and below his lips and he seemed to still be in a fit of giggles “It was funny!”

“No it wasn’t,” said a girl who was slim and had long dark brown hair that stopped around her chest, her face was longer than the boys and he features were narrow yet large but still beautiful and a scowl was fixed to her face like an unfitting hat “it scared me to death!”

“Oh no, Anna’s a zombie!” cried the boy again, his other accomplices were not impressed

“Lee shush it, this doesn’t feel right!” the woman replied “Amy what’s the time?”

A girl who was taller and thinner than Anna stepped forward from behind her and thrust her arm out to the woman’s face “Around midnight, Susie.”

“Oh, dear how long have we been laughing? And why on earth were we laughing? I’ve forgotten?” Susie daintily placed a hand onto her forehead “I’ve got a horrid headache!”

“Maybe you should sit down.” Said a man, tall and slightly large around the waist, but not fat. His head was covered with thick brown curly hair and he wore glasses over his rather ordinarily plain nose and he had a small goatee on his chin and a rather proud moustache on his mouth.

“I’m fine, Josh, but thanks.” Susie said “Now, where’s your brother?”

As if by magic, the young spring boy jumped from behind one of the sofa’s his hair was of smaller supply than his brothers and it was slightly lighter, he had most of his brother features, blue eyes with a chime of green and a nose that tilted upwards so slightly you would hardly notice unless up close. His top lip glistened with blonde facial hair that puberty had gifted him with but it didn’t stand as proud as his brother.

“Okay, five down, three to go. Where have those other boys got to then?” asked Susie

“Umm… Susie they went upstairs, don’t you remember?” said Daniel obviously

“No,” Amy said smiling down at her friend “We have no idea, we remember laughing about something but we can’t remember what.”

“Well we were playing hide and seek, and I was counting. The others, Jeff, Josh, well the other Josh, and the other Dan went upstairs and you were about to follow and then we all started laughing.” Daniel explained

Anna still wasn’t happy “Hide and Seek is a game for babies! My sister plays Hide and Seek with her friends! I wouldn’t be roped into playing Hide and Seek unless my life deepened on it!”

“Oh, I can remember someone at the door.” Said Joshua all of a sudden

“Well maybe we should look for the others.” Susie said and walked out into the corridor.

They were in the house belonging to Amy and Anna’s parents for a few reasons. One, Susie’s flat was, at the moment due to a pest problem. The second was that it was the biggest house and the third was that all other parents were at a ‘grown-ups only’ celebration for New Year. The other reasons contained that Breakout. The youth club Susie ran. The two Dan’s, the two Josh’s, the other Josh’s brother called Joel, Amy, Anna, and Lee including herself, had nothing else to do. The younger siblings of those present needed to be babysat, they were upstairs asleep.

As Susie swung open the lounge door into the corridor, light swam down to her from one of the upper floors. There were two above the ground floor, and it danced into the dimly lit lounge nearly blinding the rest of the Breakout crew as they walked out to the corridor after Susie. They slowly ascended the stairs in single file. They arrived at the first floor of the house. Clothes from the four bedrooms, Amy’s, Anna’s, their younger sisters and their parents, were thrown across the floor and there was on large heap in which muffled yells came. With a careful and slightly over the top extravagant gesture Susie threw the clothes away from the person within. Sitting on the floor tide up together were the other Josh and the other Dan but to save confusion in this story they will be known as Daniel and Joshua.

“What are you two doing?” asked Amy pulling a pair of her knickers from Joshua’s head and throwing them in the direction of the room before helping the others untie the two

“Are you serious?” Joshua spurted out

“We got broken into!” Daniel said half laughing

“They pumped laughing gas into the place!” Joshua shrieked

“Oh, I’m so scared…” Anna muttered

“Well if someone did break in, then why?” asked Lee “If I’d of broken in anywhere I would have been as quiet as possible and made sure you two were somewhere less… oh what’s the word?”

“Obvious?” said a voice and Lee turned and gasped

Anna followed by turning and screamed, Daniel and Joshua were just in shock and the brothers, Dan and Josh, nearly fell on top of each other whereas Susie frowned. She stepped forward trying to intimidate the person. Lee took a step down the stairs and Amy shuffled slowly to the door of her room. The man stood with three hostages in front of him and a gun to the head of the middle hostage. On the left was Anna and Amy’s sister, called Abby, who was small and pretty with a mix of her sisters features but had a tint of blue in her hazel eyes. Her hair was messy and brown like some sort of electrocuted tree. The middle hostage was the brother of Josh who was nearly as tall as his brother and had the same floppy hair yet it parted like curtains, not like his brothers hair that swooped to one side. The last hostage was the brother of Joshua and Daniel, called Steven, whose hair was spiked up but no-one could tell if it was fear or the hairstyle he was obsessed with lately. They stood there in a minute of frosty frozen silence.

“What do you want?” Anna snivelled at last and everyone looked up at her. She was shaking. Tthey turned back to the villain

“Anything precious and all you better stay here.” He started counting them all in a slowly, confused whisper “Where’s the other one?”

Everyone started to look around “Amy…” whispered the brother of Joshua

The villain smirked and pushed past his hostages and approached the door of Amy’s src="http://deercreekcottages.com/photo_gallery/lores/Staircase%20wide%20angle.jpg" border="0" alt="" />room to where Amy had sneaked off to when no-one was looking. He kept his face to them at all times until he came to the door which flung open and hit him in the face, he fell back onto the floor dropping his weapon. Josh dived and picked it up, shrieked and dropped down the stairs. Lee dodged, as it fired and hit the ceiling making a chunk of plaster drop. Amy sprung out of her room and darted down the stairs but no-one followed. The gun dropped to the bottom and Amy stood three steps away and turned. Susie stood at the top with the villain in an arm lock with smile.

“He’s nothing without his gun.” Susie said as the other thundered past her to get downstairs.

The man sighed and stamped his foot in anger “I should of gone next door!”

Like in the story the villain couldn’t do anything without his gun and good old Susie beat him good and proper. But like the villain we would be nothing without God. But we must use him and the tools he gives up to do good things and not just rub it in other people’s faces.

5 day Work Experience

'This week, I spent time with Suse and n:flame finding out what a youth worker does, on work experience.

On Friday I turned up at the n:flame offices at Palmers Green Baptist Church to meet Suse who introduced me to some of the n:flame team, Ruth Barratt and Andie Frost. After this quick encounter with people that I would be seeing more of as time went by, we went back to the church flat to do some proper

work, Suse replying to emails and preparing bible studies and lessons for future home groups and what not while I designed a leaflet for the upcoming ladies pamper evening in the church lounge and also a poster for the CU in Woodside High School called Roots.

On a Monday where I attended the nFlame Monday morning meeting where they spend time worshipping God because during their normal church days, having to look after the youth of the church, they rarely get the chance to be a part of the service. Lunch at the Orange Cafe was next on the agenda then a return to the nFlame offices where I designed

another CU poster for Palmers Green High School which swiftly replaced the Woodside High School Cu poster too!

Tuesday was probably my busiest day yet, starting at Woodside High School to take part in the CU there with Suse, Georgia and a couple of teachers. We had a good time talking about great songs to run too, because Suse likes to run, and the winner was “Dance” by Tim Hughes. All agreed that his “Happy Day” album is awesome!

I was spoilt again for lunch. We went to Cafe Latino in Wood Green where we ate and talked about Romans 6 and learnt that “sin shall no longer be your master because you are not under law, but under grace.” After learning from Paul, Georgia and I went back to Palmers Green Baptist Church where we were trained for the Tunbridge drop down day that the Gap Year

students with n:flame were taking part in. It was a good way to learn about what nFlame get up to with Schools work because on Wednesday I was going to take part in a lesson for nFlame in Palmers Green High School.' - Josh, Work Experience Student from Latymer School. Blood, Sweat and Luxuries

Today in Pathfinders we watched the last in the BBC3 series of Blood, Sweat and Luxuries (You can watch it here.

We discussed briefly, how it's awful how people have to leave their children to earn a living to bring them up. Was it something that we could do?

Crazy that even if the price of the cheap MP3's went up - the workers at the bottom of the 'Food chain' would not be effected because it would get swallowed further along. Is there anything we can do to help others?

Family was so important to them. Do we value what we have enough? Should it really take seeing such things to make us value things?

Exam Time

It's that time of year again... No doubt the blood pressure is soaring sky high. Here''s a prayer to pray before exams...

Lord, today I am just really stressed. You know, Lord, that I am having some trouble with the test I am about to take. I know it's probably not the biggest world problem, with people starving, people turning away from you, people in wars, and more. But, Lord, it's what I'm facing right now, and I need you in this time. I know that no problem is too big or too small for you to handle, and I need to turn this stress over to you to help me with.

Lord, I just need to be able to focus. I need your help to look at this information so I can remember and apply it well on my exam. I need you to help me feel more confident going into the test and relax a bit so I can concentrate. Lord, please help the people around me to understand that I need to focus and study.

Also, Lord, help me when I walk into the exam. Give me the peace, when it is all said and done, to know that I walked in and did my best. I pray, Lord, for your guiding hand as I take the exam, and I ask for your welcome calm when I walk out of the classroom after.

Lord, thank you for all the blessings you have placed in my life. Thank you for being here in this time when I feel a bit overwhelmed. Thank you for always being there and allowing me to rely on you. Praise your name. Amen.
